B8 Completes 2-1 Comeback to Defeat Vitality, Sending Them to the Lower Bracket and Advancing to the EWC Playoffs

B8 pulled off the biggest upset in the Esports Club World Cup to date, defeating Vitality 2-1 to secure a spot in the knockout stage.

The first two maps were fiercely contested. Vitality overcame a massive deficit to win the opening map, Mirage, before B8 secured Inferno in the exact same fashion. The decider on Dust2 was shocking, as Vitality was completely dominated and ended the series in a sorry state.

Undoubtedly, Vitality was off form, but B8 also delivered an outstanding performance. The Ukrainian squad decisively capitalized on Vitality's individual mistakes, completely reading apEX for most of the series, and pulled off a memorable upset to secure a playoff spot.

"Obviously, we are all very happy because we felt our form was really good before the match," npl told Freya during the post-match broadcast. "Our practice matches went really well, and we even played a practice match against Vitality on Dust2, which helped us a bit."

The alarm bells have sounded for Vitality. Following their quarterfinal exit at the IEM Cologne Major, they have suffered consecutive losses to Liquid and B8 in the new season. With mezii, apEX, and others set to take paternity leave, the Vitality dynasty appears to be crumbling and nearing its end.

B8 entered this map with a seven-game losing streak on Mirage, but their performance, which pushed Vitality to the brink, showed absolutely no sign of it.

Outstanding performances from s1zzi and esenthial helped B8 secure 5 rounds on the T side, and they carried this momentum into the defensive side, briefly taking an 11-7 lead.

Vitality then steadied themselves, overcoming noticeable mental swings and successfully avoiding esenthial, winning 9 of the next 10 rounds to secure the map in overtime.

Vitality looked to be in complete control of the series early on Inferno. Their defense quickly dismantled B8's T-side attacks, and despite losing the pistol round, they comfortably built a 9-3 lead.

After switching to the CT side, B8 turned the tide. kensizor's excellent defense on A site, along with their outstanding utility usage in Banana, made it difficult for Vitality to find an opening on attack.

Vitality began to make mistakes: apEX's overextension in the 4v3 and ropz missing his shots while flanking in the 2v2 were among the most glaring examples; as a result, B8 comfortably secured the map, forcing the series into a decider.

Dust2 delivered the series' true shock. Vitality was completely nowhere to be found on this historically reliable map. B8 outplayed them in every engagement, effortlessly reading Vitality's attacks while capitalizing on the firepower struggles of multiple Vitality players—which should have been their deadliest weapon.
