Russian author МОЛЕСКОРЛУПА analyzed this leaked new weapon, let's take a look at what this new weapon really is.

Now for the highlight of this update. The developers have once again, either accidentally or intentionally, leaked files for a new CS2 weapon, which МОЛЕСКОРЛУПА says is the Marlin 336 Dark Series model.
However, for some reason, it is marked as LAR in the game files. (Possibly Lever-Action Rifle) Finally, this is not just a config line, but a real model and animations. But it is missing textures, and the animations look broken. The reason is that this is a genuine prototype. Although there are already some textures, the model itself has no unwrapped UVs to display correctly.
The most interesting thing is, do you remember the mention of the M14 rifle in the game not long ago? That was actually it. It's just that the developers decided to swap the weapon at some stage. This actually explains a lot. When I demonstrated the real mechanics of the M14 rifle in one of my videos, you may have noticed some inconsistencies caused by the developers themselves, but now it all makes sense. All of these stats fit a Winchester/Marlin perfectly. For example, you don't carry much reserve ammo, and if you aim and fire, the scope automatically unscopes. Now let me show you the Winchester's real mechanics in action. As you can see, there are currently five rounds in the gun and five in reserve. When firing, reloading works like a shotgun, loading one round at a time. When you aim and fire, the scope briefly zooms out and plays the lever-cycling animation.
Once again, this is a built-in mechanism by the developers. Everything is subject to change at the moment. Incidentally, this is also a good illustrative example, we can see the entire development process of the new rifle.
At first they used the AWP model without a scope, adjusted the parameters, tried to mount an AUG-style scope on it, and decided this would be the M14.

Then it slowly started to be adjusted into this weapon, eventually becoming the Winchester/Marlin. In other words, it actually proves that many of the things we find in the game may end up becoming something completely different.

According to the author's analysis, it lines up — the "M14" previously intentionally/accidentally leaked by Valve is actually this lever-action rifle. It holds 5 rounds with 5 rounds in reserve, costs 4100 to purchase, deals 115 base damage and 460 damage on headshots with a 4x multiplier. The version currently in-game has no high-power scope and appears to support iron-sight aiming and hip-fire. With its considerable damage, this weapon will presumably serve as a lower-tier sniper rifle, purchasable on a tight economy to deal massive damage.
