Autimatic CS2: Career, Stats & Why He Quit for Golf
When fans talk about American Counter-Strike talent, Timothy “autimatic” Ta is one of the first names that comes up. From his ELEAGUE Boston 2018 Major win with Cloud9 to his sudden 2025 retirement from competitive play, the autimatic CS2 story is a wild ride. We’re breaking down his career, stats, and his surprising new chapter on the golf course.
Who Is Autimatic?
Timothy Ta, born May 11, 1996, is an American Counter-Strike pro known for his versatility. He could flex between rifling, AWPing, and lurking at the highest level a rare trait that made him a backbone player on every roster he joined.
He started in CS:GO around 2014 and quickly built a name in the North American scene. By 2016, he was playing for Team SoloMid (TSM) before making the move that would define his career.
The Cloud9 Era: A Major-Winning Run
Autimatic joined Cloud9 in late 2016 and stuck with the org through its peak. The roster’s chemistry, paired with stars like Stewie2K, Skadoodle, n0thing, and Tarik, turned Cloud9 into a serious contender.
The Boston 2018 Major Win
The defining moment of autimatic’s career came at the 2018 eleague boston Major. Cloud9 became the first North American team in history to win a CS:GO Major, beating FaZe Clan 2-1 in a now-legendary grand final.
Key facts from that run:
- First NA Major champion a historic milestone for the region
- Autimatic played a clutch support role with the M4A1-S and AWP
- The win unlocked the boston 2018 legends (holo-foil) sticker collection
- Cloud9 stickers from this Major are still some of the most collectable items in CS2 today

After Cloud9: TSM, Gen.G, and Beyond
Cloud9’s roster eventually broke apart, and autimatic’s journey took him through several rosters:
| Year | Team | Notable Result |
|---|---|---|
| 2018 | Cloud9 | ELEAGUE Boston Major Champion |
| 2019 | Cloud9 (rebuild) | Roster shuffles begin |
| 2020 | Gen.G | NA online era multiple deep runs |
| 2021–2022 | Evil Geniuses (EG) | Star player on rebuilt EG roster |
| 2023–2024 | Various NA mixes | Tier-2 grind, occasional standout games |
Throughout this stretch, autimatic was consistently rated as one of the most fundamentally sound NA riflers. He wasn’t always the flashiest fragger, but his game IQ kept him relevant when many of his peers faded out.
Autimatic’s Playstyle Breakdown
Autimatic stood out for his flexibility and discipline. Here’s what made his game tick:
- Versatility equally comfortable holding angles with the m4a1-s or popping shots with the awp
- Smart utility usage known for high-percentage smokes and flashes
- Lurk timing one of NA’s best at finding map control late in rounds
- Team-first mentality willing to play support roles when needed
His ability to swap roles made him a “glue player” the kind of guy every coach wants because he holds the lineup together.
Then He Quit CS for Golf
In May 2025, autimatic dropped a bombshell: he was retiring from competitive Counter-Strike to pursue professional golf. The Reddit thread exploded with reactions, ranging from shock to genuine support.
Why Golf?
Autimatic had been openly streaming and posting about golf for over a year before the announcement. For him, it wasn’t a random pivot it was a real passion he’d been chasing on the side.
Key reasons cited:
- Burnout from the relentless CS pro schedule
- Genuine love for golf that grew over years of casual play
- Age factor at nearly 30, he wanted to chase a new athletic dream while still physically capable
- Financial stability from his CS career gave him the freedom to take the leap
It’s an unusual move, but it’s hard not to respect the honesty. Pro CS chews players up many guys burn out by their mid-20s without ever admitting it publicly.
Autimatic’s Legacy in CS
Even though he’s hung up the mouse, autimatic leaves behind a strong legacy:
- Boston 2018 Major Champion the first NA team to lift the trophy
- 9+ years in tier-1 CS incredible longevity in a brutal scene
- Mentor figure for younger NA talent on EG and other rosters
- Beloved community member known for being chill, funny, and genuine on stream
He’s not the loudest name in CS history, but he’s one of the most respected. If you’re building a roster of NA’s all-time greats, autimatic is on the shortlist.
