EPICENTER XL Results
Epicenter XL has just finished, bringing us some amazing matches, surprising outcomes and something to discuss for a week until the next pro circuit tournament, MDL Changsta Major, starts.
Epicenter was held from April 27 to May 6, with the main event at the VTB Ice Palace on May 4-6. Twelve teams fought for their share of the $1,000,000 prize money and 1500 DPC points. These points are becoming even more important as we approach The International 2018.
In standard fashion, which has almost become a tradition for professional tournaments, all matches during the main event were played in the best of three format. The only deviations were that the first two rounds of the lower bracket were played as Bo1, and the grand finale was Bo5.
Tournament Results
In case you missed the championship and want to catch up, here are the results:
-
PSG.LGD – $500,000 and 750 DPC points
-
Team Liquid – $200,000 and 450 DPC points
-
FlyToMoon – $110,000 and 225 DPC points
-
Virtus.Pro – $70,000 and 75 DPC points
Teams placed from 5th to 12th didn’t receive any DPC points, but they did obtain a share of the prize money:
5-6. OG, Mineski – $30,000
7-8. Team Secret, paiN Gaming – $15,000
9-10. Newbee, compLexity Gaming – $10,000
11-12. Team Empire, Natus Vincere – $5,000
Best Moments
FlyToMoon can be definitely called the highlight of the tournament. The Russian team managed to fight all the way from the Madness Qualifiers to third place in the main event. However, their placement in the pro rank doesn’t grant them the ability to receive an invitation despite the obtained points.
Probably FlyToMoon will fight for their place at The International during the Closed Qualifiers.
Another interesting fact about this tournament is that it is the first Dota 2 major to be won by a Chinese team. Though pro players from China often got to the finals, they couldn’t seize the main prize until this success at Epicenter XL.
It looks like PSG.LGD decided to have it all at once – PSG.LGD player Xu “fy” Linsen became the MVP of the tournament and received an epic prize, the Infinity Gauntlet. We guess that humanity will have something to show if the evil Thanos decides to conquer the Earth.
Dota 2 Pro Circuit Points
Some changes happened to the situation in the top eight teams of the Dota 2 Pro Circuit. Now we have two lucky crews who already guaranteed their ticket to The International 2018 – Team Liquid sealed their second place in the overall ranking. Now they can skip all the next tournaments and focus on preparing for The International. The tournament winners PSG.LGD now stand in fourth place and still have to fight for more qualifying points.
Here is the list of the top eight teams with their DPC points for now:
The first two teams in bold have already secured their places at The International group stage, the remaining six teams have a high chance of receiving an invite if they manage to maintain their positions.
