Team Spirit has transformed from a regional contender into one of the most feared organizations in competitive Counter-Strike. If you’re following the Spirit CS2 story, you’re watching a team that won a Major, produced a generational talent, and consistently challenges for trophies at the highest level. Here’s everything you need to know about this Russian esports powerhouse.
The Origins of Team Spirit
Team Spirit is a Russian esports organization founded in 2015. The organization has been based in Belgrade, Serbia since 2022.
While Spirit gained global fame through their Dota 2 achievements, their Counter-Strike division has carved its own legendary path. The CS division started in 2016 when they signed the former Team Phenomenon squad, with coach Nikolai “Certus” Poluianov guiding the team through their early years.
The organization’s philosophy centers on developing young talent rather than buying established stars. Through a series of roster experiments, Spirit adopted a strategy of promoting talent from its academy, leading to the rise of stars like donk and zont1x.
Current Spirit CS2 Roster (2026)
Following significant changes after the StarLadder Budapest Major 2025, Spirit has restructured their lineup heading into 2026.
| Player | Role | Nationality |
|---|---|---|
| donk | Rifler/Entry | Russia |
| sh1ro | AWPer | Russia |
| magixx | IGL/Rifler | Russia |
| zont1x | Rifler | Ukraine |
| tN1R | Rifler | Russia |
| hally | Coach | Russia |
Boris “magixx” Vorobyev has been appointed as the team’s new in-game leader (IGL). Myroslav “zont1x” Plakhotia has returned to his original role within the roster after taking time to rest and address personal matters.
This roster change came after Leonid “chopper” Vishnyakov and Ivan “zweih” Gogin were removed from the team’s starting lineup. The decision to bench chopper triggered strong emotional responses from fans, as he served as the face of Spirit for years.
donk: The Generational Talent
No discussion of Spirit CS2 is complete without highlighting Danil “donk” Kryshkovets. Donk entered professional esports through FACEIT, where he was spotted by scouts and invited to Team Spirit Academy in 2021 when he was just 14 years old.
At the Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024, Team Spirit defeated FaZe Clan 2-1, with donk becoming the youngest player to win a Major and Major MVP at 17 years 324 days old.
donk’s 2025 Statistics
Across 159 maps played in 2025, donk recorded outstanding numbers: a 1.42 rating, 97.1 ADR, 77.6% KAST, and +3.4% Swing.
| Stat | Value |
|---|---|
| Rating 2.0 | 1.42 |
| ADR | 97.1 |
| KAST | 77.6% |
| Rating vs Top 5 | 1.36 |
Throughout 2025, donk earned four MVP awards — at BLAST Bounty Spring 2025, PGL Astana 2025, IEM Cologne 2025, and BLAST Bounty Fall 2025.

sh1ro: Elite AWP Support
In December 2023, the team made a significant addition by acquiring Dmitriy “sh1ro” Sokolov from Cloud9, enhancing their roster’s depth and skill set.
The addition of sh1ro gave Spirit a world-class AWP player capable of matching anyone in the world. His passive, methodical style perfectly complements donk’s aggressive entry fragging, creating a balanced attack.
Major Tournament Victories
Spirit’s trophy cabinet has grown significantly since 2024. Here are their most notable achievements:
2024 Highlights
Spirit claimed major victories including IEM Katowice 2024 ($400,000), BLAST Premier: Spring Final 2024 ($200,000), BetBoom Dacha Belgrade 2024 #2 ($250,000), BLAST Premier: World Final 2024 ($250,000), and Perfect World Shanghai Major 2024 ($500,000).
2025 Achievements
Team Spirit secured several notable victories in 2025, including first-place finishes at Intel Extreme Masters Cologne 2025 and PGL Astana 2025. The organisation also claimed the BLAST Bounty Fall 2025 title and won the BLAST Bounty Spring 2025 earlier in the year.
At PGL Astana 2025, Team Spirit came out victorious following a 3-1 victory over Astralis in the grand final, taking home $200,000 of the $625,000 prize pool.
For fans tracking tournament stickers and collectibles, Spirit’s success has made their team stickers increasingly popular among collectors browsing CS2 skins.
Budapest Major 2025: So Close to Glory
The roster changes followed a mixed but relatively successful year for Team Spirit at the top level of CS2 competition. Most recently, the team finished third to fourth at the StarLadder Budapest Major, exiting the tournament with a 0–2 loss in the semifinals and earning $80,000 in prize money.
At the Budapest Major, Spirit reached the semi-finals but their loss to Vitality left a sense of missed opportunity, especially after giving up a 12–6 lead on Mirage.
Despite the semifinal exit, donk was phenomenal throughout, recording 137.2 ADR and an incredible 2.38 rating in their victory over Liquid.
Viewership and Global Popularity
Team Spirit led all CS2 teams in 2025 with 421,296 Average Viewers, representative of the fact that Russian-speaking viewers remain perhaps the most important demographic in CS2 esports.
Spirit accumulated 79.1 million Hours Watched across 15 events and 68 games in 2025, making them the second-most watched team behind only Vitality.
This massive following translates to significant interest in Spirit-related items. Collectors seeking golden CS2 skins often pair them with Spirit stickers for unique combinations.
Spirit vs. Vitality: The Defining Rivalry
Although Spirit could not win any of its five series against Team Vitality in 2025, there were more than enough moments in these matches to show that this team has what it takes to challenge the French roster’s dominance.
The Spirit-Vitality matchup has become CS2’s most compelling rivalry, with both teams pushing each other to new heights.
The Academy Pipeline
Spirit’s success stems from their commitment to developing talent through their academy system. By the end of 2023, Team Spirit had established themselves as a top-tier team, with key players like chopper and magixx leading the charge. Their success was further bolstered by the inclusion of rising talents such as donk and zont1x, who were promoted from Spirit Academy.
This approach mirrors what we’ve seen from other successful organizations and proves that patience with young players can pay massive dividends. For players looking to improve their own game, understanding CS2 ranks and the competitive ladder is essential.
Looking Ahead: Spirit in 2026
Spirit will soon begin preparations for the new season. The team’s first event of 2026 will be BLAST Bounty, which starts on January 12 with the online stage.
Team Spirit’s current direction signals a controlled reset focused on leadership stability, role clarity, and long-term consistency rather than short-term experimentation.
With magixx taking over IGL duties and zont1x returning refreshed, Spirit has the pieces to challenge Vitality’s dominance. The core of donk and sh1ro remains intact—arguably the most dangerous duo in CS2.
Conclusion
Spirit CS2 represents everything exciting about modern Counter-Strike: young talent, innovative coaching, and the willingness to make bold moves. From winning the Shanghai Major 2024 to consistently competing for trophies throughout 2025, they’ve proven they belong among the elite.
With a restructured roster heading into 2026, Spirit is poised for another strong year. Whether you’re a longtime fan or just discovering this team, their matches are must-watch CS2 content.
