Workshop Map Recommendation: Retro Gaming Experience with csQuake (Quake)

The Creative Workshop map features a variety of maps, not all of which are classic CS shooting gameplay. It allows for other types of gameplay within CS, with most modes completing the game using CS characters, including parkour, gliding, and more... Damn, playing other games inside CS, what's that about!

The author's promotional video:

This game contains almost none of the CS elements; you won't find the classic fly head or default knife in it. Instead, it is almost entirely about playing other games. Community author deana has created and added the ancient classic game Quake (the "Hammer of Thunder") to CS. What kind of game is Quake?

Quake, developed by id Software and released in 1996, is a dark fantasy first-person shooter (FPS) game widely considered a milestone in video game history. Players traverse dimensions, progressing through levels by finding keys, solving puzzles, and eliminating monsters. The level design emphasizes vertical exploration and hides numerous secrets. Thanks to Valve adding more and more workshop features, creators can now implement more functions and content in the game. Once inside, you are presented with a complete game interface; without the classic CS Logo, it might even look like you've opened a different game. Upon opening this map, you'll see the functionalities typical of other game interfaces — New Game, Load Game, Options, Controls, Achievements, Exit.

This workshop map even has an achievement system! Furthermore, after testing, it's confirmed that saves and achievements are retained and won't be reset when players close the game.

When choosing to start the game, you can even select the game difficulty:

Wait for the game to load, the loading screen includes gameplay tutorials:

Upon entering the game, you'll see a classic retro pixel-style scene. As a first-person shooter, players respawn holding a gun, starting with a hatchet and a shotgun. Below, you can see the character's stats, including health, ammunition, and so on. This shotgun does not require reloading.

The weapon wheel bound to the F key can switch to other weapons.

The numbers below the crosshair show speed and change visibly as the player moves.

In the first scenario, players learn basic operations and acquire a bulletproof vest. Once the basics are mastered, they can leave this scene. The retro-like setting feels like traveling back to the millennium days to play CS1.6.

The bottom left corner displays time, kill count, and other statistics. As you progress linearly through the game, you will encounter various enemies. The map is filled with different items, and defeating enemies will drop supplies for replenishment. During gameplay, you can unlock additional weapons within the map.

As you progress, enemies will become stronger, and the terrain will grow more complex, increasing the difficulty of solving puzzles!

The author also created glow effects underwater. Although the game dates back many years, the visuals have become increasingly impressive with the advancements of modern engines.

And the game's content doesn't end there; this is just a partial glimpse of the first level. The rest of the game's content awaits you to experience it firsthand!
