August Valve Team Rankings: CN Teams May Miss Direct Invites to IEM Beijing and Liebian Tiandi Suzhou

On August 3, Beijing Time, Valve updated the VRS Global Team Rankings. Spirit remains world No. 1 with 2,011 points, while Falcons rank second with 1,950 points. Newly crowned BLAST Bounty Season 2 Finals champions MOUZ rose three spots to third place, and XPL Guangzhou champions 9z jumped eight spots to fourth. This ranking also serves as a key invitation criterion for several tournaments, including IEM Beijing and the Fission World Suzhou event.

VRS TOP30 Team Rankings

Among the top ten, MOUZ and 9z saw the most significant ranking improvements this period, rising to third and fourth respectively thanks to their recent tournament championships. Affected by point decay from early-year events and recent results, Vitality dropped from third to fifth; NAVI, FURIA, and Aurora also slipped to sixth, eighth, and tenth respectively. Legacy holds steady at seventh, BetBoom climbs to ninth, while G2 falls out of the top ten to 11th place.

With the official release of the August 3 VRS rankings, the direct invitation picture for the main events of two Chinese tournaments has also become largely clear. Both IEM Beijing and the Liebian Tiandi Suzhou stop will distribute invitations based on this ranking period. Based on the current global and Asian standings, neither TYLOO nor Lynn Vision currently falls within the standard direct invitation quota for the main events of either tournament. To secure a spot on the home stage, they will primarily need to qualify through the upcoming closed qualifiers.

IEM Beijing: Asian Direct Invite Expected to Go to The MongolZ

First, it should be clarified that the 29 VRS invitations shown for IEM Beijing in the screenshot do not mean the main event has 29 direct invite slots, as they also include invitations issued to teams for the closed qualifiers. The IEM Beijing main event features a total of 16 slots, including 10 global VRS direct invites, 1 North American direct invite, 1 South American direct invite, and 1 Asian direct invite, with the remaining 3 slots determined through the global closed qualifier and the Asia-Pacific closed qualifier.

Predicted IEM Beijing Roster Based on VRS Rankings

In the Asian VRS rankings as of August 3, The MongolZ ranked first in Asia with 1,637 points, TYLOO ranked second with 1,565 points, and Lynn Vision ranked third with 1,431 points. Assuming all teams accept their invitations as expected, the sole direct invitation spot for the main event in Asia is expected to be secured by The MongolZ. Since neither TYLOO nor Lynn Vision ranked first in Asia nor fell within the global direct invitation range for the main event, they cannot directly secure a spot in the IEM Beijing main event based on this ranking period.

However, failing to secure a direct invite to the main event does not mean the two CN teams are already out of IEM Beijing. Based on the current projected lineup, TYLOO and Lynn Vision still have a chance to receive closed qualifier invitations. The global closed qualifier will advance 2 out of 16 teams, while the APAC closed qualifier will advance 1 out of 8 teams, with both paths combined awarding 3 main event slots.

If the two CN teams ultimately end up in different qualifier paths, theoretically, there is still a possibility that they will each advance and meet in Beijing.

Fission World Suzhou Stage: TYLOO Just 72 Points Away from Direct Invite Threshold

The direct invite process for the FISSURE Suzhou event is more straightforward. Originally scheduled as FISSURE 5, the tournament was renamed FISSURE 3 following adjustments to the series, and will be held from September 8 to 13 at the Suzhou New District Culture and Sports Center. The event will feature 16 teams, with 15 directly invited based on the global VRS rankings and the remaining spot determined through an Asian closed qualifier. Both the main event direct invites and seeding will be based on the VRS rankings as of August 3.

Fission World 3 Predicted Roster

In the current global rankings, The MongolZ sits at 15th place with 1,637 points, which also serves as the theoretical direct invitation cutoff for the Fission World Suzhou Stop. TYLOO ranks 18th globally with 1,565 points, trailing 15th place by 72 points, while Lynn Vision ranks 29th globally with 1,431 points. Therefore, assuming the higher-ranked teams accept their invitations as expected, the two highest-ranked Chinese teams will both fail to secure any of the 15 direct invitation slots for the main event.

Invitation Rules for the Fission World 3 Closed Qualifiers

According to the qualification system announced by the tournament, the top five teams in the Asian VRS rankings will receive invitations to the Asian Closed Qualifier. TYLOO and Lynn Vision are ranked second and third in Asia, respectively, and both are expected to advance to this stage. However, the Closed Qualifier ultimately offers only one spot for the Main Event. The two Chinese teams may not only face each other but will also have to compete against Asian and Oceanian opponents such as FlyQuest and THUNDER dOWNUNDER.

Missing out on a standard direct invite does not mean completely losing the chance to be a replacement. When higher-ranked teams decline invitations or are unable to compete, VRS invitations are typically passed down sequentially based on rankings. If The MongolZ declines the Asian direct invite for IEM Beijing, TYLOO could still be considered as a replacement; if multiple teams within the direct invite pool decline to participate in the Fission World Suzhou event, TYLOO, ranked 18th globally, theoretically still has a chance to advance to the main event through sequential allocation.

However, barring any withdrawals or declined invitations, the closed qualifier will remain the only conventional pathway for CN teams to enter the two domestic tournaments. More than whether they can secure a qualifier invitation, the bigger question is whether TYLOO and Lynn Vision can successfully break through the fierce competition for slots, avoiding a scenario where neither of the two international tournaments hosted in China features a domestic team.
