Wicadia: XANTARES Takes Immediate Command at the Sight of Opportunity

Before the start of BLAST Open Porto, Aurora player Wicadia gave an interview, discussing the team's adaptation after their roster changes. It was his first time competing in an English-speaking environment—"it was indeed a bit difficult, but I’m improving day by day." Regarding role adjustments, he said, "Most things haven’t changed; I’ve switched one or two positions, but I don’t mind too much." When asked about his goals for the season, Wicadia mentioned that he hadn’t set specific targets, "but I hope to win a few championships this season." He also highlighted the team’s recent issue of failing to close out a match after leading 9-3, noting that this is a key area they need to address moving forward.

Q:First of all, thank you for accepting the interview. We talked last time in Cologne. How have you been since then? Especially after changing to a new team, how is everyone's condition and the atmosphere?

Wicadia: I'm doing fine, and everyone else is doing well too. We're still in the process of getting used to each other and learning about one another, but everything is good so far.

Q: The team has undergone significant changes with ash and k3, Jimmy joining the roster. Now that you have to communicate entirely in English, how have you adapted to it? Compared to what you're used to, is this a big challenge?

Wicadia: Ever since I started playing CS, I've always communicated in Turkish. This is the first time I'm speaking English in the team, so it's definitely a bit challenging, but I'm improving day by day. Maybe in another month, it will be much easier.

Q: With a new commander and new coach, have you significantly changed your approach to matches? Or are you trying to maintain your original playstyle?

Wicadia: On one hand, we're continuing what we're used to, and on the other hand, our other teammates also have their own ideas. We're trying to merge both sides and bring out the best parts to use.

Q: Specifically regarding your role, you previously focused more on trading kills and exploiting the spaces created by your teammates. In the current roster, are there any aspects of your playstyle that need adjustment?

Wicadia: Mostly the same, with maybe one or two things positioned differently.

Q: I'm curious to ask, what exactly has been adjusted?

Wicadia:For example, on the T side of Nuke, I used to play Outside, but now Jimmy has taken over that position.

Q:Are you satisfied with this adjustment? Or do you actually not really care?

Wicadia: Actually, I don't really care. As long as it produces the best result.

Q: This time, there have been significant roster changes in Aurora, which will also affect the team's playstyle. Was this change proposed by the players themselves, or did the club decide that a roster adjustment was necessary?

Wicadia: I think it's a bit of both. Some players wanted to leave for personal reasons, and the club also felt it was time for a change. So, it could be considered a mutual decision.

Q:Want to understand your shot-calling style. As the star player on the team, does XANTARES take charge verbally on the offensive side? When he has ideas, does he call out tactics directly?

Wicadia:Yes, when he sees an opportunity or feels confident during the game, he takes initiative to direct and make decisions. His voice is loud.

Q: Do you have any goals set for this season? Like HLTV top 3, winning a specific tournament, or something like that?

Wicadia: Actually, we didn't set any specific goals. Our goal is simply to do our best and hopefully win a few championships.

Q: For the final question, what do you think the team is doing well currently? And what areas still need improvement?

Wicadia: I think we can play well against strong teams, like the match against FURIA at EWC. What we didn't do well is, in the last game we had a 9-3 lead, but later failed to solve the problems posed by our opponents and couldn't close out the match. We need to improve in this aspect.
