Valve Update Purifies Gaming Environment: Overwatch System Rejoins the Battlefield?

Recently, players feel that there are a lot of subtle wallhacks and aimbots in the game, and "farm accounts," deathmatch bots, and the like have left players miserable. According to SteamDB data, the number of online players continues to decline.

In order to improve the gaming environment and increase daily active users, Valve is also upgrading and improving the VAC system, and in today's minor update, has the classic Overwatch system joined the fray?

Players found that in this 42M small update, Valve added the VACNET icon.

According to gabefollower, some cheaters revealed that their accounts were banned by CS2's Overwatch system about a week ago. (Not a temporary suspension, but a permanent ban.)

The investigation has confirmed that the moderation system has imposed a game ban on this account:

Game: Counter-Strike 2

Your account has been reported for misconduct. Patrol investigators reviewed the game footage and determined that the player used third-party software to assist with aiming, identifying enemy positions, or gaining unfair advantages in other aspects. This behavior will result in a permanent ban.

Steam Support does not remove Overwatch bans, nor does it provide information about such bans. Please remember that you are responsible for the security of your account, even if it is used by hackers or other persons.

Using cheats will result in a permanent ban, your in-game items will be locked and cannot be transferred from your inventory.

To play online again, please purchase the game on an account that has not been banned.

You may have noticed that the image mentions Patrol bans. This is actually a translation issue — it should be Overwatch, that is, the Overwatch system "OW", the classic Overwatch ban "OW ban", not the game "Overwatch".

Global Cooldown - Convicted by Overwatch - Majorly Disruptive.

You may remember the Overwatch system from the CSGO era, which required Gold rank or above and 150 competitive matches. After unlocking the Overwatch system, you could review the "suspect's" kill perspectives and use these clips to determine whether the suspect meets the "beyond a reasonable doubt" principle. This includes aimbotting, wallhacking, scripting, as well as behavior that is disruptive, anti-competitive, and/or anti-social, such as: deliberately disrupting teammates, attempting to maliciously harm teammates or be harmed by teammates, going AFK during matches, or deliberately losing matches.

During the GO period, when the evidence review is completed, the system will grant you XP rewards based on the accuracy of your judgment, which will be awarded after you complete a match on any official server.

Just confirmed, player @SoulReaper_F gained access to the new Overwatch system without receiving a direct invitation. He is unsure what caused it, his rating is 16000, and he previously participated in Overwatch case reviews in CSGO.

Welcome, you have been granted access to the CS2 VACNet Flag Portal.

On this page, you will see gameplay clips from CS matches. Please watch the clips with audio and answer the questions presented.

The player you are watching will not be directly affected by your verdict. Instead, these labels may be used to train future VACNet models.

It is normal (and expected) for you to often choose "Unsure". If you make any other choice, please be certain.

To avoid helping malicious players find better ways to hide their cheating tools, please do not livestream, record, or share videos of these clips.

It is confirmed that this player randomly gained access to the new Overwatch system. According to the description on the Steam interface, the new Overwatch system will not directly judge the suspect, but it can be used to train future VAC models, and investigators are advised not to record and share these clips to prevent inspiring malicious players to create more powerful cheats.

Afterwards, the player named "Soul Reaper" shared the interface showing he had obtained the precious permission. In the new supervision system, suspects are all named by color, no longer with names like "Red-crowned Crane" or "Penguin" as before.

Interface information: Please watch the clip with audio and answer the questions asked.

X-Ray is activated.

The player you are watching will not be directly affected by your judgment, but tags may be used to train future VACNet models.

It is perfectly acceptable (and expected) for you to frequently choose "Uncertain". If you choose other options, please be certain of your judgment.

The selected clips do not represent actual gameplay.

Tried to follow the link on this page, but the page was blank. It appears that the new Overwatch system is now independent within the Steam interface and reviews can be conducted without launching the game, whereas in the GO era you had to launch the game and download the demo in-game to start reviewing.

According to the moderation system interface shared by "Soul Reaper", the left side shows the suspect's gameplay, while the right side shows the issues that need to be reviewed,

Did the suspect use an aim assist feature to automatically aim at opponents, or fire immediately when an opponent enters their crosshair?

Did the suspect use Wall Hacks to see enemy players through walls, floors, smoke, flash effects, or other obstacles?

Did the suspect use auxiliary means to precisely input jump commands at the moment of landing to increase movement speed?

Does the suspect look fully automated?

Confirm mark Uncertain Deny mark

As you can see, players can choose whether to confirm information about whether to use cheats, and information from multiple players is integrated to process data. Supervision system video:

I went online to watch seriously, but unfortunately found that I did not get permission. Players who have permission can launch the link by entering the game, I'll put the link below:

You have entered CS2 VacNet. If you have received an invitation to participate, please log in.

Has everyone received the invitation? Here are hands-on screenshots shared by players who have received access:

Looking at the aggregated data from data websites, there was a ban wave from July 25-27 with approximately 12,000 accounts banned, and another from August 5-7 with approximately 20,000 accounts banned.

Do you think adding a supervision system would greatly help purify the gaming environment?
